It is believed that The Realm Online, along with Ultima and EverQuest, laid the foundation for the multiplayer genre that the public loved. But after 27 years of existence, the game was closed - it happened in the summer of 2023. Then the decision was explained by the unprofitability of the project. However, the initiative was taken over by other developers who bought the rights from Norseman Games and decided to revive the classic, so the paid and free servers of the game are open again. Let's tell you more about what's going on.

Second Breath of The Realm Online

This MMORPG is the longest-lived MMORPG in the world. It worked continuously from 1996 until today, when the copyright holders started having financial difficulties. In addition, fans of the old days are becoming fewer and fewer over the years, because the games of the 90's are not like the current ones. Most of the information is presented in them in the form of text descriptions, the graphics is the simplest, and the interface requires beginners to study for a long time. However, the classics still have admirers who are ready to support such retro on pure enthusiasm. These are the developers who picked up the banner of The Realm Online, which had fallen, to give the favorite work from childhood a new chance.
But the designers are reviving the classics not exactly, but making significant changes. In particular, mages now have a revamped mana regeneration system, NPC thieves received weakened damage, and there are now activities on maps for high-level heroes (from 100), including the dungeons Small Beehive, Cave of Fairies, and Targoth's Tomb. Enchanting options, spells, and combat mechanics have also been refined, while gold mining has become more difficult compared to the original version. Although in general the range of trophies, according to official data, has been increased many times.
