Intensifying the fight against cheaters in PUBG: Battlegrounds

PUBG is an undisputed classic of "battle royale". And everything in the game is good, except for the abundance of unscrupulous users who gain unfair victories over their opponents. The situation has gone so far that it required the developers to take serious measures. Employees of the company Krafton published an appeal, in which they told what they do to identify and punish cheaters. But will they be able to put an end to this eternal struggle?

PUBG team letter about the situation with cheaters

First of all, the developers report that every week they block up to 100,000 accounts whose owners were suspected of using illegal programs. This figure is a good indication of how bad things are. Krafton took a comprehensive approach to solving the problems. And it began with the classification of suspicious accounts, which were divided into two types - hacked and those using skill levels to participate in ranking matches. Everything is clear with the first type: someone stole an account to exploit it together with cheats. The second type is much more interesting. We are talking about accounts that are artificially boosted with macros to level 80 and then sold or used according to the first scheme mentioned above.

To eliminate such tricks, the developers tracked abnormal behavior of gamers to then block them, but this method was characterized by low accuracy. Then the PUBG team decided to use machine learning, which eventually tripled the number of bans. In addition, neural networks are constantly improving, which increases their effectiveness in tracking cheaters. A good sign of positive changes Krafton employees consider the growth of prices for accounts that were pumped illegally. So the new method of combating tricksters is a great hope, and honest gamers are advised to set up two-factor authentication to protect themselves from hacking.
