Employees of Funcom studio presented on YouTube a special show for all those who are waiting for the release of MMORPG in the universe of "Dune" by Frank Herbert. Developers offer you to imagine a version of the planet Arrakis, where there is not and never was Paul Atreides - this is done so that representatives of all factions feel free, and not act based on the actions of the common leader. Also creative director Joel Baylos told us how his project differs from other survival games.
What has been revealed from the second episode of Dune: Awakening Direct?
The key moment chosen by the developers to create an alternate history is related to the choice of Jessica, who was supposed to give Duke Leto a daughter, as demanded by the Bene Gesserit sisters, but decided to give birth to a boy. In the game, on the contrary, everything moves according to the genetic plan - and the Atreides family gets a daughter named Ariste. The rest of the events develop in the same way as in the books and screen adaptations: Leto must take possession of a planet where the most valuable substance in the galaxy is mined, but this is opposed by the former masters of the system - Harkonnen. And in addition, the aborigines of the sandy deserts, the Freemen, hate both equally.
According to Baylos, the game will have a full-fledged story, associated with solving the mysteries of the Freemen, regardless of which faction the user chooses. Promised and easy switching between servers: you start in a world of forty people, where you learn the basics of the game, then get to another server with a specific set of activities, and so on. Locations on Arrakis will be of several types. There are peaceful hubs where you can trade, relax in the club or take a task from NPCs, and also a desert of 500 square kilometers with free PvP battles. When creating characters, they will be allowed to assign social status and origin, and it is designed in a very original way - as a test with a poisonous needle Gom Jabbar.
