AI partners are coming soon to PUBG
During the CES 2025 Electronics Show, NVIDIA presented an updated version of its ACE (Avatar Cloud Engine) technology, which has been around since at least 2023 and allows neural networks to generate replicas and behavior of any online game characters. This time the developers paid special attention to the benefits of this solution in multiplayer projects - the integration of the algorithm into their "battle royale" has already been announced by the authors of PUBG: Battlegrounds and Naraka: Bladepoint.

The technology was originally envisioned as a way to "revitalize" NPCs in story games - so that, for example, there was something to talk about with a bartender or a random passerby on the street. But progress has moved even further, and now neural network characters can behave just like live partners during a match. They understand voice commands - the video in this news story shows a digital companion searching for 5.56 caliber ammo on command and tagging it, then reporting it in chat and covering the commander while he collects the loot. On top of that, the AI partner knows how to drive vehicles. What seemed like science fiction yesterday will become commonplace tomorrow.
In addition to Krafton, the company responsible for the development of PUBG, the authors of Naraka: Bladepoint, the story-driven VR horror Alien: Rogue Incursion, MMORPG World of Jade Dynasty and "life simulator" inZOI - it is called the main competitor of The Sims - have announced the introduction of ACE in the near future. It doesn't mean giving up multiplayer, but it gives a chance to have fun even if someone can't find a company to roll in his favorite shooter.
