Developers revealed gameplay of Dune: Awakening
While the second part of Denis Villeneuve's film epic is gathering positive reviews from viewers and critics in theaters, Funcom is preparing for the release of a survival game in the "Dune" universe. Employees of the studio, known for Conan: Age of War, published the first shots of gameplay and shared their thoughts on the ambitious project. Naturally, it wouldn't have been without the hype around the movies, but that doesn't mean there's nothing to do on virtual Arrakis. There's something for every genre connoisseur.
What has been revealed about Dune: Awakening?
On the one hand, the developers describe their work as a typical survival game. You appear in a deserted world, looking for supplies and shelter, while hiding from enemies. Even the bodies of fallen enemies are of value, from which you can squeeze out some water. On the other hand, the variety of mechanics presented is impressive. In addition to resource gathering, construction and stealth, there are battles on the ground and in the air - with the help of ornithopters. Crafts will also appear: you can make various improvements for the suit to, for example, levitate or strengthen the defense. Role-playing component will be reduced to the fact that your hero will study the practices of the Great Schools of the Empire (for example, Bene Gesserit) and will get additional support in battle.
Gamers will be able to join forces to create a squad and build their own base among the sands. This is where resources, devices and military equipment will be stored. A larger association, clans, will allow you to influence global events. You can, for example, join the Harkonnens or Atreides to vote or fight for the laws you like. Along the way, characters will encounter natural disasters like sandstorms. While exploring a location, it doesn't take long to fall into quicksand or get wormed. These and other aspects of the game are currently being tested in a closed beta test. But no one has yet announced the exact date of its release.
