Updating the rating system in Apex Legends
After the release of the "Arsenal" add-on, the developers of the "battle royal" Apex Legends studied the experience of users and decided to make changes to the rating system. The Respawn Entertainment team announced this in an open letter to fans. The changes will affect the selection of players in the match, the principles of scoring, different styles of behavior of gamers and other aspects of the action game.
What will happen to Apex Legends before the end of the summer?
The authors of the game, as well as its fans, faced the fact that too many people get the rank of "Master", and the rewards for matches are distributed unevenly. All the findings of the study will be applied in Season 18. And it all starts with matchmaking. Previously, this mechanic relied on the comparison of the current number of rating points (RP), although this approach gives a more or less accurate balance only at high levels. Respawn employees decided to implement a different system - hidden player matching rating (RPI). This algorithm evaluates the real progress of the user, rather than achievements in the moment. If a gamer's personal level exceeds his RPI, he will not be able to get a victory bonus.
Further, the developers will reduce the number of "Masters" and awards given to them due to a more accurate approach to the distribution of bonuses. It is noted that after the release of the update "Arsenal" participants of shootouts became more active in the endgame. Nevertheless, there are still people who hide and wait for the next narrowing of the circle, avoiding combat with opponents. In Season 18, fixes will be released that reduce the rewards for such quiet "survivalists". In particular, the architecture of shelters will be changed, where people usually sit back instead of taking active action. Finally, the patch will affect waiting in the lobby - it will become longer, but will ensure equality of power with rivals.
