The expansion and console release of Dune: Awakening

Returning from Gamescom 2026, the authors of the MMO game set in Frank Herbert's «Dune» universe decided to summarize all the news announced during the event. The list of the most important includes the Filmic Archive DLC, which will be released as early as the 22nd of this month, the introduction of crossplay and the launch on Xbox and PlayStation 5 consoles, as well as the premiere of the Polar Cap update, which moves the action to the pole of the planet Arrakis — the only place in the desert world where snow and ice can still be seen.

Several events will take place on September 22. First, Funcom studio will release the game on current-gen consoles — with additional graphics settings on PS 5 Pro. Second, the Filmic Archive update will be presented, which includes collections of items inspired by Denis Villeneuve's film adaptation. Here, «Dune» fans will find the armor of Atreides soldiers, Harkonnen armor, and Gurney Halleck's spacesuit from the second film. There will also be the «Aegis of the Untraveled Path» costume — like the warriors from Paul Atreides' visions. And the «Storm Cloak of Caladan» is inspired by the attire of Duke Leto from the same film adaptation of Herbert's books. Finally, building elements, armor, and decorations of the Emperor's Sardaukar, a tactical shield, a ceremonial blade, emotes, and other innovations spotted by the developers on the big screen are promised.

As for cross-platform sessions, they will be added later — exactly when, Funcom does not specify. Gamers who have fallen in love with the survival mode in Hagga Basin will also appreciate the «Polar Cap» update, whose release date is also not yet specified. But it is already known that it will feature fresh survival mechanics, winter landscapes unusual for the world of Arrakis, previously unseen resources, and a storyline created specifically for this map.
