Free chapter and paid activity in Dune: Awakening
Funcom employees announced the release of patch 1.2.0.0 for the MMO game set in the «Dune» universe. The update is divided into two parts — one is available for free, while the other requires payment. The first part includes a new story chapter, a character appearance customization mechanic, random events on the map, combat mechanic adjustments, and a range of cosmetic items, including armor for each faction. The second part is the «Lost Loot» expansion, offered for purchase at a price equivalent to $13.
What has changed in Dune: Awakening version 1.2.0.0?

The next chapter of adventures includes the «Great Convocation» storyline, available immediately after the «Find the Fremen» mission. The story has a spy twist — players must unravel mysteries rooted in the Imperium and use stealth in their movements. All contracts included in the update are now marked with an indicator on the map — it also shows quest progress. Completing all trainer assignments rewards a set of armor, the appearance of which depends on the hero's school. Additionally, Hagg Basin, Arrakeen, and the village of Harko have new characters with dialogues. A whole new location was also created for the story. Those who revisit familiar places will notice some changes — for example, the absence of quicksand between inhabited sectors and the Deep Desert.
Character appearance can now be changed in any of the four social centers — special rooms have been allocated for this purpose. Other significant changes include autopilot for vehicles, precision missiles for ornithopters, and AI-controlled enemy improvements. To make infantry combat against flying machines more convenient, special duralumin rocket launchers have been introduced — they penetrate ornithopter defenses faster. The list of innovations concludes with a paid DLC featuring quests, vehicle types, and a wide selection of items. Those disappointed by the paid content can take advantage of free weekends — until September 15, the game will be free for everyone, and until the 22nd of this month, a 20% discount will apply to all items.
