This Chinese open-world MMORPG has been gaining popularity since mid-November, when the Everstone studio released it on Steam under the publishing umbrella of NetEase. In the game, which stylistically resembles the “battle royale” Naraka: Bladepoint, the gamer takes on the role of a 10th-century martial arts master and challenges various fighters from the ancient kingdom. The project started gathering over 200 000 online connections from the start, and recently interest in it was further fueled by news of a release on mobile devices running iOS and Android operating systems.

What makes Where Winds Meet interesting?

The game's setting is done in the style of wuxia — a medieval Chinese adventure novel, so historical scenery is mixed here with fairy-tale plots, and all characters, even geese from the pond, are skilled in martial arts. The map can be explored both alone and together with friends. In terms of freedom of action, gamers compare this project to GTA: players can not only fight and travel in any direction, but also live a peaceful life in their own way. Some will prefer to set up a home and start a family, others — will raid another player's estate, and then kidnap NPCs to their base and lock them in an underground factory to get stable profit.

Nothing prevents you from acquiring your own business like a cafe or leading the life of a wandering warrior who fights every passerby in a duel. All reviews note the freedom of action rarely seen in MMOs. The combat system of the new game is compared to Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro. In other words, battles with opponents require skill and good control. Get distracted — lose. So far, reviews of the game have been overwhelmingly positive, so there is public interest in the mobile release, although some users complain about the overloaded interface of the PC version, as well as the lack of Russian localization. The project will be available on smartphones on December 12, with cross-platform session support promised.
