Team Fortress 2 Classified has been released

In game development, it often happens that authors abandon some ideas in favor of others, change plans depending on circumstances — and as a result, the final product rarely resembles the original concept. This is roughly what happened with the creation of the second Team Fortress. But fans of the popular online shooter decided to recreate the original version of the action game themselves, adding to it solutions that were rejected by Valve employees for one reason or another. The result of their efforts was a project with the subtitle Classified, now available for free on Steam.

The enthusiasts prepared their modification while overcoming difficulties. Since the first name of their work was Classic, there were problems with rights holders from Valve. Then the development was blocked at the demo festival on Steam — due to the same intellectual property issues. This is why the 2025 release never happened — gamers had to wait until the next year when the Eminoma team finally resolved all legal issues, and the public awaited the premiere. The modification offers several major differences from the original, but all these features are inspired by ideas that were filtered out at different stages of TF2's creation.

Gamers will get to know a new character class — the Civilian. He must be delivered unharmed to the destination in VIP mode. There are also unique battles: «Superiority» and «VIP Race». Among the additions to the arsenal, it's worth noting the nail gun, tranquilizer, and bundle of dynamite. The course of battle is also influenced by environmental objects on the map — such as catapults, anti-aircraft guns, and even bricks. And most importantly — the fan development is created with extensive mod support, meaning anyone can customize the shooter for themselves and their friends if they wish.
