Marathon's release is postponed indefinitely

Fresh news about the failure of Sony's shooter Concord. That's why publishers are in no hurry to release ambitious projects. And the online shooter Marathon from the creators of the Halo series at Bungie studio is also being postponed to an unknown date. Although just a couple of months ago, the developers indicated September 23 as the release date, they have now chosen to remove this information from all platforms. They explained their actions in an open letter to gamers, which we will discuss in more detail.

Why is Marathon being delayed indefinitely?

The project by Bungie, a team that needs no special introduction, immediately captivates with its vibrant cyberpunk style and sci-fi setting—the action takes place in deep space, in the Tau Ceti IV system. Genre-wise, it's an extraction shooter, meaning you'll need to enter the map, collect loot, and evacuate, otherwise you'll lose more than you managed to gather in the match. A closed alpha test has already been conducted, initial results have been summarized, and a release date was set, but suddenly the developers changed their minds and removed the September 23 date from all digital stores where the game was supposed to launch. They explain their actions simply—the current result doesn't quite resemble the typical Bungie action games.

We remember that the lack of a 'distinct identity' ultimately led to Concord's failure, so the concerns of the new game's creators are quite understandable. They need time to create an 'intense, high-stakes experience' for every gamer. Efforts during refinement will focus on improving survival mechanics, developing AI algorithms, creating dynamic events on maps, and adding strategic and narrative features to make battles and exploration of the virtual world as engaging as possible. The primary match format is expected to be solo and duo shootouts. More news will arrive this fall.
