Fortnite to make PvE mode free

The authors of the famous online game from Epic Games have published two important pieces of news at once. On one hand, the developers are increasing the cost of virtual V-bucks in Fortnite, so purchasing battle passes and character cosmetics will now be more expensive than before. But on the other hand, they're opening up free access to the 'Save the World' mode, where a team of heroes must fend off zombie attacks. In theory, both innovations should balance each other out, but how will the public perceive such changes?

Details of the Fortnite update in March 2026

Starting March 19th, the cost of one unit of virtual currency in the 'battle royale' will increase, which the developers say will provide more funds for updates and server maintenance. Specifically, the 499-ruble pack will now contain 800 coins instead of the previous thousand, and 2000 rubles will only get you 4500 V-bucks instead of the usual 5000. However, all users will receive compensation: the battle pass price will be reduced from 1000 to 800 digital currency. Additionally, gamers are promised a 20% rebate on their spending.

However, every cloud has a silver lining. Starting April 16th, the 'Save the World' mode will become available to all users for free. In this battle, characters build traps and shelters to fend off hordes of undead. Moreover, every gamer will have a chance to get the character nicknamed Snow Strike — gameplay for him is only available in PvE. It's worth reminding fans of the genre that Fortnite was originally a game about defending fortresses from zombie attacks, so the revival of interest in 'Save the World' can be called a kind of restoration of the action game.
