In Epitome, you can play for free

Typically, independent games created by enthusiasts for mere pennies offer only a single-player mode. But the authors of Epitome are developing a full indie MMORPG — to save money and time, artificial intelligence handles some processes in it. Neural networks provide dynamic dialogues with NPCs on any topics and give hints regarding character development or quest completion. A demo version of the project is now available on Steam — you can try it completely for free.

What makes the Epitome demo interesting?

The game is being developed on the Unreal Engine 5.4 engine, so its graphics are modern rather than primitive, as is often the case in independent projects. The virtual world is created according to the canons of the fantasy genre: it is populated by magical creatures, and among the hero classes available to gamers are Warrior, Ninja, Shaman, Necromancer, and Elementalist. A special feature of the adventures is meant to be characters who, thanks to AI generation, can talk to users on any topics related to the game universe and solving story quests. Both PvE missions and PvP activities are provided, and a single server can support up to 33,000 connections.

The free demo version, of course, offers limited features. Here, for example, you can only create warriors and ninjas — without other archetypes for now. Also promised are battles with a boss named Ettin, a "living city" with NPCs controlled by artificial intelligence, generating quests in real time, as well as a dungeon with rewards. To download the client and launch it, it's enough to go to the game's page on Steam. At the same time, the exact release date is still not specified — before release, they need to gather public feedback and fix bugs.
