Superhero game Ship of Heroes is shutting down

Exactly one year was enough for the developers at Heroic Games Corporation to make sure that their MMORPG about the adventures of characters with supernatural abilities would not soar to the top of the charts. On Steam, the game received mostly negative reviews — gamers agreed that it would have been better to make it free-to-play instead of selling it for 30 dollars. So the developers decided to shut down their project as early as September 22, 2026. The servers will be closed, and users aren't even promised any compensation.

What you need to know about the shutdown of Ship of Heroes?

The game was announced back in 2017, and its development took a total of nine years. But right from the start it showed low online numbers, around a hundred users, and then the concurrent connection statistics dropped to just a few players online. The creators of the 'Ship of Heroes' decided that no patches could save their brainchild and addressed the audience with a farewell letter. In it, they noted that they managed to create a virtual world with a storyline, plenty of activities, and an editor that allows giving each hero unique traits. There were also missions for groups of up to ten participants, a crafting system, trading, personal hideout building, raids, and seasonal events.

In February 2026, the UGC program went live — fans were able to create their own content and missions to complete them together with friends. Heroic Games employees had already prepared a patch with 40 community missions, but instead of the update, they decided to shut down the project as of September 22. The reasons are low online numbers and staff cuts. Whether any gamers will receive compensation, the farewell message does not specify.
