What Steam has achieved in 2021

First of all, representatives of the store noted an increase in the number of hours played by users - 38 billion, which is 21% more than in 2020. The amount spent on games also increased by 27%. This is not surprising, because during 2021 the site received about 2.6 million gamers every month. Separately, the report emphasizes the jump in popularity of gift cards - having appeared back in 2017, they finally earned properly and for the year gained 43% of the money in the system. Of course, the releases of former Sony and Microsoft exclusives were not ignored.

In addition Steam employees reported on the technical part. They told about the growing popularity of branded VR headsets (in particular, Oculus Quest 2) and Steam Deck. The most massive event of the last year was the summer sale, which attracted 2.3 million new customers. In the future, the company intends to focus on optimizing servers, attracting new developers, and developing tools in the Workshop.
