It has been revealed what awaits New World: Aeternum
Amazon Games had high hopes for this MMORPG, but something, as often happens, went wrong. First, the game New World underwent a soft relaunch that left a subtitle in its title, and then an abundance of negative reviews forced the project's creators to consider shutting it down. After releasing the Nighthaven expansion, the developers went silent for a long time, but recently they reached out to announce plans to shut down the servers exactly one year from now — at the end of January 2027.
What is currently known about the closure of New World: Aeternum?

Actually, a couple of months ago, Amazon employees had already warned gamers that after the release of the Nighthaven DLC, there would be no more such updates. But back then, no one connected the developers' statements with plans to end the project. As it turns out, such intentions did exist — and they have now been made public. The game has already been removed from sale, as any Steam store user can verify. On January 31, 2027, all servers will be shut down, but until that day, gamers are free to play as usual, complete story quests, raid world bosses, and level up their heroes. It's also worth keeping in mind that trading in currencies like 'Marks of Fortune' will remain available until July 20 of this year, and refunds for any virtual items or valuables spent are no longer possible.
For reference, the original New World was released ten years ago — in 2016. It was Amazon's first major game release, so no expense was spared in promoting it. As a result, over 700,000 people wanted to check out the new game on its very first day, and that's just Steam statistics, not counting other stores and platforms. The MMORPG's average score on the review aggregator Metacritic was 70 out of 100, but over time, public opinion of the project soured, and the relaunch with the Aeternum subtitle didn't solve the problem.
