To be a Russian engine? A new order for Rostec
The Kommersant newspaper, citing its own sources, reports on a new initiative of the head of Rostec. It is alleged that Sergey Chemezov approached the Ministry of Finance with a proposal to transfer the Rosinfokominvest fund to the corporation for the development of a Russian game engine. However, if such a tool is created, it will be used not only for entertainment purposes.
What we know about our Unreal Engine response
Today in Russia, even creators of patriotic games such as Distemper and Tartaria: The Forgotten Tale are forced to use foreign development tools. The leaders here are the convenient and accessible Unity and Unreal Engine of various versions. After all, the domestic engine of the same level does not yet exist. Of course, games are the last thing Rostec executives are interested in, but the engine would come in handy for creating 3D models in mechanical engineering. It could also be used in the production of VR projects, animated films, educational materials and other products where volumetric visualization is important.
As representatives of Rostec explained to Kommersant, interest in developing a game engine is due to the fact that a niche was vacated in the market, and there are enough specialists. In addition, such a project could improve the image of the corporation, which has often been criticized. It is for this purpose that it is proposed to allocate the fund, which should receive an amount of 1.3 billion rubles from the Ministry of Finance.
