Destruction in The Finals is truly impressive
Embark studio staff find time not only for developing the extraction shooter ARC Raiders, for which they have prepared a major expansion called "Frozen Trail", but also for supporting their earlier projects. The online action game The Finals, in which characters fight for the favor of viewers on deliberately decorative arenas, will receive a more advanced destruction system in October. Chaos could already be wreaked on its levels before — all it took was some explosives — but now the system looks truly impressive.
Details of the autumn update for The Finals

Season 11 kicks off in the game on October 20. Until it ends, all users will receive double XP for daily contracts and 150% for taking part in regular matches. But that's not all: gamers are in for battle pass rewards and a number of changes to the shooter itself. According to the developers, they decided to maximize the importance of sponsors — now it's simply impossible to do without one. On the other hand, each sponsor offers unique bonuses for activity and its own progression track. In addition, the lighting and destruction models on the maps will be changed. And the latter point is worth mentioning separately.
Embark programmer Roman Smirnov and senior game designer Tim Ove Overvliet gave a demonstration of what grenades and bombs will be able to do to the game's virtual scenery in the near future. Detailed physics simulation will make it possible to destroy cover, carve a path where there was none before, and simply tear down entire buildings by destroying their foundations. The interaction between parts plays a big role here: if, for example, a concrete slab is brought down onto the floor, it can smash through the floor slab as it falls and trigger a chain reaction of collapses. That said, it's better to see this in motion — the developers have just posted a video.
