Advanced protection for the shooter Marathon has been introduced

Many online game developers are seriously concerned about protecting their projects from illegal software and the actions of cheaters. Bungie employees are offering their method of solving these problems — a synthesis of proprietary security software and long-proven tools like BattlEye. Gamers will be able to test how successful this solution is on February 26th, when server stability testing begins, which will be the final test before release.

How will the authors of Marathon protect honest players?

Fans of extraction shooters are accustomed to the fact that character death is inevitable — getting to know games of the genre requires special patience. But the developers at Bungie, in their own words, want to do everything possible to ensure that gamers know: defeats occur due to their own mistakes, not problems with the code. Therefore, the new game will process all user actions, whether it's looting, organizing inventory, or shooting, on dedicated servers. A special compensation mechanism will ensure there are no 'deaths around corners,' where you've already taken cover from an enemy but the character still dies due to desynchronization. The system will remain stable even with a poor internet connection, and in addition, dishonest match participants will not be able to use exploits (for example, creating infinite ammo for themselves).

The protection model is configured to block most known cheats, including ESP and wallhacks, and is complemented by algorithms that operate at the hardware level. If server errors lead to the loss of loot or equipment, the program will be able to track this and return the lost items to the account. All users caught engaging in unfair play will receive a permanent ban in the 'Marathon' mode. Fans of the genre will be able to test these claims at the end of the month, when Bungie launches the Server Slam event and invites everyone to participate. Recall that the shooter's release is scheduled for March 5, 2026.
