Flying with friends in No Man’s Sky

The developers at Hello Games have unveiled the Voyagers expansion for their game about wandering through infinite space. Now in No Man’s Sky, players will not only be able to use pre-made starship models but also assemble their own in a workshop and then fly them with friends. Free movement around the ship is available at any moment—just like in Star Citizen. A spacewalk mechanic has also been added, though it's advisable to shut down the engines first. Here’s what development lead Sean Murray shared with the public about «Voyagers».

This solution has long been overdue—and now it’s implemented in the game. The ship is no longer just a capsule that transports your character from point A to point B but a full-fledged living space. At any point during the flight, you can let go of the controls and walk around the compartments, and you can do this with friends, as flights are now cooperative as well. The developers decided to name this new class of starships «corvettes». Corvettes are the largest vessels in the game. If desired, they can be constructed in the workshop by hand: selecting engines, chassis, cockpits, galleys, medbays, bedrooms, radar and weapon rooms—the range of modules is extensive.

Hello Games also promises a choice of designs for each module, meaning you can assemble a vehicle styled exactly as you like. The same goes for hull sizes, which depend on the number of connected compartments. Additionally, a teleporter, like in Star Trek, was introduced—this device allows you and your companions to instantly land on the surface of any planet. And, of course, nothing stops you from suiting up and stepping out of the airlock into open space while the starship drifts in orbit or an asteroid belt.
