Details of air combat in Soulmask

Studio CampFire continues to prepare its multiplayer survival simulator Soulmask for the release of the Shifting Sands update and shares details of the upcoming changes. The expansion promises to be unusual: it mixes Ancient Egyptian style with steampunk technology. This time, the focus is on battles on flying ships — the developers have revealed how exactly this works and how much creative freedom gamers will have in equipping the vehicles. Let's share what is currently known about the upcoming update — its release, let us remind you, is already scheduled for April 10th.

Solar ships and their features in Soulmask

The main novelty of the DLC, in addition to desert landscapes with pyramids and statues of the pharaoh, will be vehicles capable of not only gliding over the dunes but also soaring under the clouds. These machines can serve both as homes for heroes and as powerful mobile fortresses, armed to the teeth. In the early stages of construction, the board can be equipped with primitive weapons like ballistae, but as scientific knowledge becomes more complex, other ways to deal damage to enemies and destroy their fortifications will appear. Here, it will be important to maintain balance so as not to overload the anti-gravity unit, which also powers weapons — such as a laser cannon.

To save energy, you can also install ordinary bombards, like on 17th-18th-century sailing ships. It is also worth paying attention to the energy shield — a barrier against lasers and other guns of your opponent. Special crystals will be needed to maintain the force barrier, so with a shortage of resources, the fortress's defense capability will sharply decrease. And only ships equipped with beam throwers will be able to fight back against a monster somewhat reminiscent of the sandworm from «Dune». This monster is capable of throwing stones at people and will become a world boss. A new blueprint system will allow assembling sky fortresses ready for any challenges.
