Overwatch 2 is in for big changes

Blizzard Entertainment employees held a stream where they discussed the changes coming to their main online shooter in the near future. It turns out they plan to remove the number 2 from the title, as if the sequel never existed, and with the start of the new season, five heroes will be added to the game immediately. Also planned are weapon rewards for ranking, a collaboration with Hello Kitty, and a release on the portable Nintendo Switch 2 console. But let's focus on the main innovations.

Along with removing the sequential number, the season numbering will also be reset, meaning the upcoming one will become the first. And its main stars are already known. There will be five of them, with developers planning to introduce ten characters throughout the year. Leading the list is Domina - a heroine who fights in a tanking style. Her strength lies in ranged attacks, stunning, and a light barrier. Her ultimate ability is called «Panopticon» - a shot of a «hard light» projectile that pulls in enemies and detonates. Another fighter, Imre, specializes in sniper weapons - he can scale his scope, use passive health regeneration, jump unusually high, and turn into a living weapon with his ultimate.

Anran, like Imre, is also focused on dealing damage, but instead of a gun, she wields a fan - with it, she can both wound opponents and set them on fire. Mizuki from the support class, in turn, doesn't attack as much as hinder opponents' advances: reflecting their bullets, immobilizing enemies, and healing allies. But they're also good in offense - throwing a hat with a sharpened edge at the target, like Kung Lao from Mortal Kombat. All in all, a useful ninja in the squad. Closing the ranks of newcomers is a ginger cat equipped with a jetpack. Don't let the animal's cute appearance fool you - this fluffy one not only flies with jet propulsion but also shoots projectiles that heal friends and damage foes.
