Icelandic company CCP Games, responsible for developing the most grandiose space MMORPG of modern times, has shared with fans information about the Catalyst DLC, which is scheduled for release on November 18 this year. The main focus of the update will be on resource extraction and everything related to it, including industrial ships. The public will also be introduced to a new type of ore, an improved map, accelerated prospector progression, and much more. We’ll tell you about the upcoming changes to EVE Online in more detail.

What makes the Catalyst expansion interesting in EVE Online?

The developers intend to bring back the excitement around the mining craft, as it serves as the foundation of the space economy. To achieve this, the CCP team came up with a unique ore called prismaticite, which will reignite competition across the galaxy. It will be extractable using new starships, among which the mining destroyer “Pioneer” will hold a special place — it will be made accessible even to newcomers. This is a middle ground between industrial frigates and regular barges. The vessel will be presented in three versions, including the Consortium Issue. But that’s not the only addition to the fleet. Capsuleers should also take a look at the “Odysseus” — an exploration ship with a spacious hold where you can transport large amounts of extracted resources.

The main gameplay change is the acceleration of mineral extraction. You’ll still need to slice asteroids with lasers, but the cycles, according to the developers, will be significantly shortened so that every player feels their own progress more keenly. In addition, the game will see a number of less noticeable but important changes. This primarily concerns the interface, which will be made more intuitive, as well as navigation — the 2D tactical map will allow for better orientation in interstellar space than the 3D projection. However, both display modes will remain in the project.
