NVIDIA introduced DLSS 5
Artificial intelligence technologies are becoming more firmly established in the gaming industry, even if some people don't like it. Just recall the story with ARC Raiders, when developers, at the request of gamers, replaced neural network character lines with lines recorded in the studio by live actors. But progress still cannot be stopped — at the GTC conference, NVIDIA showed what games will become like in the near future. Everything will be changed by the fifth version of their proprietary upscaler, created specifically for RTX 50-series graphics cards. Let's tell you what is known so far.
Learn more about DLSS 5 capabilities

As company CEO Jensen Huang stated, the new upscaler combines elements of manual rendering with generative AI capabilities. The neural network draws each frame on the fly to achieve effects previously only available in cinema or on the most powerful systems. The peculiarity of NVIDIA's generation is that its result must be predictable from frame to frame, run in real time, and match the developers' vision for the game. If you create a video with a regular standalone neural network, it would require a pause for 'creativity,' and could produce two different results from the same request, which is unacceptable behavior for AI in interactive works. According to Huang, his team has tamed machine intelligence so that it improves graphics accurately, instantly, and in 4K resolution.
Thanks to its learning ability, the new neural network will be able to understand the essence of each scene in the game and enhance it with realistically detailed elements. Publishers such as Capcom, NetEase, and Tencent have already announced support for the new technology, and its capabilities will soon be applied in online games like Where Winds Meet, Delta Force, and Naraka: Bladepoint. DLSS 5 is scheduled for release this fall.
