Free playtest for EVE Frontier has begun

The work of Icelandic studio CCP Games needs no special introduction — this is the team behind the grand space MMORPG Eve Online. But they are also developing several games set in this universe across different genres. One of them is titled Frontier — a multiplayer survival simulator in interstellar space where blockchain will play a significant role. At launch, it will be a paid game, but currently, you can play for free by submitting a request on the official website and downloading the client. This offer is valid until July 7.

After completing alpha testing, the project is moving to the next stage. Currently, there is a trial period where users are invited to play for free. All you need to do is register on the official website and download all the necessary files from there. Simply click «Play Now» on the homepage, and you'll be guided further. The free session is only available for PC users — console owners are not participating yet. The developers haven't revealed the specifics of the trial version, but it's already known that gamers will have access to a large sector of space, ships will be displayed in a closer perspective than in the main EVE game, and there's a completely new combat system — closer to shooters than to strategies and RPGs.

The project is designed as a «sandbox» where everyone has freedom of action, and the virtual world's inhabitants aren't bound by any overarching plot. The gameplay revolves around resource gathering, territory expansion, and wars over them. The developers have promised a complex economic system managed by regular players. Blockchain will also be tied to it, and at launch, those wishing to add Frontier to their game library will have to pay — equivalent to sums ranging from $40 to $100.
