Erangel under ice: winter has come to PUBG

The popular «battle royale» has been updated to version 39.1, but only PC owners can properly appreciate the changes for now — console gamers will have to wait for the patch on December 11. The main theme of the PUBG update is winter, or rather cold — since there are no seasonal changes in the game's universe, the appearance of snow and ice on Erangel is explained by the fall of secret satellites with cryogenic gas. Its leak created a special microclimate on the island, which with enough imagination could be called New Year's — after such a freeze, familiar locations appear in an unusual light.

The backstory of the cataclysm is simple: scientists from the Tytonic corporation decided to complicate the conditions of the «battle royale», for which they launched climate satellites into orbit, but during the experiment something went wrong — and the satellites crashed to the ground, which led to the emergence of anomalously cold zones. The first to undergo changes was the island map «Erangel»: here, instead of the familiar circle promising death to all who linger, a ring of frost now contracts, and many buildings on the terrain have acquired decorations in the form of icicles and snowdrifts. But gamers will also notice structural changes: due to the fall of the spacecraft, the bridge leading to the military base «Sosnovka» was partially destroyed, in addition, some rivers have frozen — now they can be crossed on the ice.

In update 39.1 there are plenty of other changes as well. First of all, it's worth noting the arsenal expansion. Heroes have received weapons from the «Below Zero» series (Below Zero). The 40-millimeter handheld grenade launcher BZ creates a cryogenic zone with a diameter of 7.5 meters, inside which the enemy loses 8 health units per second. But developers note that the effect doesn't work when the grenade hits water — you must only shoot at solid surfaces. Also, in «Arcade» mode, weather condition changes have become available, and snowfalls and rains significantly worsen visibility.
