Guild Wars will be turned into a card game
ArenaNet and NC, known for releasing popular MMORPGs, have announced the beginning of a new era of "Guild Wars". Now this franchise will be replenished with a collectible card game Mistbound — its release dates are unknown, and industry experts believe the release will not happen before 2027. Interestingly, when creating the original Guild Wars, developers drew inspiration from Magic: The Gathering, so the series is, in a sense, returning to its roots. And something is already known about this return from firsthand accounts.
What do we know about Mistbound at the moment?

The main mode of the project will be a PvP arena for two opponents online. At the same time, the characters will be based on familiar faces from adventures in Tyria. Battles will unfold on a tactical field of 5x3 cells, and commanders represented as cards will be able to change their positions to influence allied creatures in different ways. Combinations with unique properties (builds) in terms of gameplay will resemble the rules of Magic: The Gathering, from where, in fact, the roots of GW grow, although some unique features are promised. And the main innovation of Mistbound will still be the ability to move already placed cards across the battlefield.
Decks will be divided by factions already known from the Guild Wars class system: there will be a warrior set, a necromancer deck, and a mesmer collection here. The chosen side will also determine the arsenal of tactical techniques: different heroes will be able to pull, push, and flank enemy units, acting nevertheless in the CCG format. In other words, we are in for a mixture of card mechanics and turn-based tactics, but how everything will be arranged in the final version — we will find out closer to the release day.
