E3 won't be back until 2023
The largest game show in the world, Electronic Entertainment Expo, is going through bad times. In 2020, it was canceled due to the pandemic, and the following year it was held only in the online format, which did not please some fans of digital entertainment. 2022 brought another surprise: the organizers of the show decided not to hold anything, limiting themselves to a number of broadcasts as part of Summer Game Fest. Nevertheless, E3 will come back to us - Stan Pierre-Louis, president of Entertainment Software Association, said about it in his interview to Washington Post.
To be or not to be E3?
Pierre-Louis told reporters that Electronic Entertainment Expo will return in the summer of 2023 in its full form, including communication with gamers and presentations in the exhibition halls. That's exactly what E3 was in 1995 when it was first held, and that's exactly how we are used to seeing it. And the attempts to replace this event with other events were not very successful - in particular, the already mentioned Summer Game Fest is designed more for the press than for ordinary gamers. And streams like Nintendo Direct and Sony State of Play focus on branded products and therefore compensate for the loss only partially.
Usually ESA announces the start date of the next exhibition after the finale of the previous one. But since there was no E3 this year, the president of the association made all the necessary statements. In addition, he commented on the attempts to accuse the games of promoting violence among young people. According to Stan Pierre-Louis, such attacks are baseless, and video games are protected by law after the decision of the Supreme Court of the United States in 2011.
