Rough Pixel: the Dungeons & Dragons classic is coming to Steam
Role-playing games of the old school, created by the rules of Dungeons & Dragons - this entertainment is not for everyone. But they will run on any computer, which is especially valuable on the background of rising prices for components. Recently it was announced the release of The Gold Box collection, which will include the recognized classics of the genre - with outdated graphics, but a deep role-playing system and interesting stories. Let's talk about the upcoming novelty in more detail.
What will happen in The Gold Box
The Dungeons & Dragons role-playing system has had a great influence on the RPG genre and popular culture in general. It has undergone several revisions, and more than one generation has grown up on it. Few people know, but even the brutal action movie Doom from 1993 used monsters and concepts from D&D. At the same time, RPGs were also released on old computers and consoles that strictly followed the rules of tabletop games. Soon a collection of such games, from Capcom's Dungeons and Dragons action game to Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, should appear on Steam's virtual counters.
The Gold Box collection was first released back in 1988. SNEG, a studio founded by GOG, re-released the games with minor revisions to the technical specs including DOSBox, a utility which allows you to run old RPGs on new operating systems. But the style has been left the same, so don't expect any graphic beauties from this antique. The collection is scheduled for release on March 29. It will be divided into eight parts, according to the individual series (Dark Sun, Forgotten Realms, Krynn and so on). It's worth keeping in mind that there is no Russian language support in any of these pieces.
