Free Active Matter demo is available on Steam

The boom of extraction shooters shows no signs of slowing. Companies Matter Team and Gaijin Network offer their own take on the genre: in their new shooter Active Matter, a realistic style is blended with sci-fi — monsters, anomalies, and post-apocalyptic scenery. The project is still in development, slated for release next year, but until November 23 anyone can try it without spending a penny. Just visit the game’s Steam page and download the client to your computer.

What makes the Active Matter demo interesting?

The online shooter greets gamers with the post-Soviet decay familiar from the «S.T.A.L.K.E.R.» universe: crumbling panel high-rises and rusty Volgas. Only well-armed, fully geared operatives can stroll these picturesque spots, because the area is a zone of quantum instability. The map is packed with traps, gravitational and temporal anomalies that let you walk on floor or ceiling with equal ease. Add monsters — they come in several types, all dangerous. You’ll have to fight them if you want to harvest the game’s most valuable resource: active matter. Other players in the session are hunting it too, so stay alert and get your loot out of the raid safe and sound.

The demo, free until the 23rd of this month, offers raids with limited progression, yet your results will carry over to the full shooter after launch. Developers also promise a look at the base of the syndicate you’ll join at the start. Rivalry between such organizations for control of active matter will be another key gameplay layer.
