Second season of Marathon announced

Bungie employees have summarized the results of the first season in their sci-fi extraction shooter Marathon, and at the same time told what gamers should expect from the upcoming modes and activities. According to the developers, they intend to make the game more engaging and less exhausting, but to do this, they will have to fix not only the interface but also the PvP rules. Also, mechanics that users liked but were rejected for one reason or another will be brought back. The next season starts in the last week of May, but much is already known about it.

How will Marathon change by the end of spring?

Summing up the results of the starting season, the Bungie team came to the conclusion that every foray into the abandoned colony on Tau Ceti IV became a real test for the users. The game was originally built on four principles: everything on the map is potentially dangerous, preparation for battle is crucial, every success advances your progress forward, and also the greater the risk, the more valuable the reward. Applying these rules in practice created rather difficult conditions for the survival of Runners. Some people really liked this difficulty — players highly appreciated endgame improvements like the Cryoarchive. But another part of the audience agreed that Marathon is hard to master, especially if playing alone.

This is why the developers took note of the idea of creating battles with a more relaxing experience. Runners will replenish their equipment with new types of armor and weapons, and at the same time there will be more ways to evacuate. In addition, duos will return to the action shooter, creating a special player matchmaking mechanic for them. The release of two PvE-oriented modes is scheduled for the summer: teams of friends will be able to fight AI-controlled enemies without excessive effort and complete the tasks before them. More details about the upcoming changes will be available after May 24.
